2018 KINGSTON BLACK

SOLD OUT

Single Varietal Dry Cider
$18 | 750 ml

Tasting Notes

Roses, dried apples and chalk on the nose. Rough-sawn tannins and tobacco in the mouth. The finish is roasted roots, bitter herbs and molasses.

Serving Suggestion:

This is an austere, tannic cider with a pretty nose that will pair well with complicated flavors and rich warm spices. Think spicy curries with cumin and coriander and a touch sweetness to them. Or the layered spicy smokey flavors of Al Pastore spit roasted pork.

The Story of Kingston Black 2018

There is a great joy in making cider from one kind of apple, from a single orchard site, year after year. Paring down the variables to a single varietal, grown in the shale crusted, silty -loam soils of our certified organic Albee Hill orchard allows us to see (or rather taste) in a more focused way. What story does the Kingston Black have to tell us?

Well, in 2018, a cool wet year, we see a lithe cider with taut tannins and a floral nose. Such a contrast to the chewy, dense Kingston Black of the 2017 vintage! The Kingston Black ciders tell beautiful stories about the pommage, the growing season.

An homage to the resiliency of trees to weather climate extremes and also perhaps, a nod to the British maritime pedigree of the variety (originating in Somerset, England), the 2018 Kingston Black is drinking beautifully. And if past years are any indication, this cider will do well with a bit of time in the bottle.
