Are you interested in learning how to make cider, grow apples, or run a small farm based business? Or maybe you just like to eat apples, get muddy and work really hard? Consider our 2023 farm apprenticeship at Eve's Cidery.
Come be part of our family farm and learn about growing apples specifically for cider with over 50 different traditional cider varieties on a certified organic and bio-intensively managed orchard. We believe that making great cider starts in the orchard and is followed by discipline and restraint in the cidery. This apprenticeship flows with the natural cycle of farming and cider making: from bottling and planting in the spring, to disgorging sparkling cider, to harvest, pressing and everything else in between.
We have 2 openings for this position. We are calling it an apprenticeship because you will be exposed to all aspects of the business and learn through working, however there is no formal teaching. The position is paid ($18/hour) and is about 30 hours per week (3- 10 hour days) and may include: farm work, cidery work, marketing, sales, gardening and construction. We currently cannot offer housing. We are looking for someone who feels comfortable working in a non-hierarchical family farm setting, is easy to get along with, has a great work ethic and the ability to do physically demanding labor. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in farming or cider-making, ideally both. Experience is not necessary, but you must be willing to learn to do the following: operate farm machinery like tractors, do manual repetitive labor all day for days, work outside in the cold and heat, work inside in a damp chilly cider barn, work alone or with people, talk cider, drink cider, taste cider, sell cider and almost never do the same thing for very long.
We believe in a farming future that is diverse and inclusive. Women and people of color are highly encouraged to apply. We are an LGBTQ safe space.
Timing is flexible but we would prefer to start the apprenticeship in mid-winter and have it run until the end of the year.
Please send a letter of interest to autumn@evescidery.com by February 13th, 2023. We are interested in hearing more about why you think this is an experience that would be a good fit for you and less about your 'credentials'. However, including a resume will help us understand how this apprenticeship would fit into the journey of your life.
